What is this washer for?
This washer sits under the crankshaft damper retaining bolt on the 2.0L 16V turbocharged petrol engine, spreading the clamp load across the damper hub at the front of the timing gear. It's a petrol-only part fitted to the Discovery Sport, Freelander 2, Range Rover L405, Range Rover Sport L494 and Evoque L538.
How many crankshaft damper washers are needed?
Typically one crankshaft damper washer is used per engine, under the single central damper bolt. It's sold singly. If you're replacing the crankshaft damper or its bolt on the 2.0L petrol engine, renew the washer at the same time.
Should this washer be replaced when removing the damper?
Renewing this washer whenever the crankshaft damper bolt is removed is the safe approach, since the damper bolt is a high-load fastener typically tightened to yield. A fresh washer gives a consistent clamp surface on the 2.0L petrol engine. Torque to the workshop manual specification.
