What does the NSC100390L crankshaft position sensor do?
The NSC100390L crankshaft position sensor reads the toothed reluctor ring on the crankshaft and supplies engine speed and crank angle to the ECU on the Discovery 1 2.0 T Series and Freelander 1 1.8 K Series petrol. The ECU uses it to time ignition and fuel injection.
Which petrol engines does this crank sensor fit?
This crankshaft sensor fits the Discovery 1 (1989-1998) 2.0 litre MPi T Series petrol and the Freelander 1 (1997-2006) 1.8 litre K Series petrol. It's not fitted to diesel or V8 variants. Discovery 1 has a VIN break, so check yours before ordering.
What happens when the crankshaft sensor fails?
A degraded crankshaft sensor typically causes stalling, intermittent cutting out, or a no-start on the Discovery 1 T Series and Freelander 1 K Series petrol. The ECU loses its primary speed and position reference, so ignition and injection timing drop out.
