Frequently asked questions

What is the FRC6691 2nd gear used for?
The FRC6691 is the 2nd gear on the mainshaft of the LT77 five-speed gearbox, fitted to pre-R380 Defender 90/110 and Discovery 1 models. It provides the second forward ratio, meshing with its matching layshaft gear to drive the mainshaft.
Where does the 2nd gear sit in the gearbox?
It sits on the mainshaft inside the LT77 gearbox casing, in constant mesh with the layshaft's 2nd gear. You can only access it by splitting the gearbox and removing the mainshaft assembly.
Does this 2nd gear fit all Defender and Discovery 1 models?
Only those fitted with the LT77 five-speed gearbox, used on Defender 90/110 and Discovery 1 before the switch to the R380 gearbox. It won't fit vehicles that already have an R380 box.
