What is the transmission-mounted handbrake disc for?
The transmission-mounted handbrake disc is the rotating element of the disc-type transmission handbrake conversion. It mounts on the transfer box rear output flange in place of the original drum, where the conversion caliper clamps it to lock both axles when the handbrake is applied.
Which conversion kits does this disc fit?
This disc is the service replacement for the handbrake conversion kits DA5513/GA5513 (Defender 90/110/130) and GA5526 (Discovery 1, Discovery 2 and Range Rover Classic with the LT230 transfer box). The matching sintered friction pads are supplied separately as XPAD.
Do I need to change anything else when fitting this?
On 300 TDi, Td5 and Puma applications you'll need the handbrake cable NRC5088, as the original cable doesn't suit the disc conversion. On Puma Defenders some chassis modification may be required to clear the caliper. The friction pads XPAD are ordered separately.
Why fit a disc handbrake instead of the original drum?
The original drum handbrake loses holding force once the drum glazes or gets contaminated by oil from a weeping output seal, and it packs with mud off-road. A disc runs in open air and sheds heat and debris far more readily, which is why owners convert.
How do I confirm this fits my vehicle?
This disc fits the Defender 90/110/130 (1983 to 2006 and 2007 on Puma) via kit DA5513/GA5513, and the Discovery 1, Discovery 2 and Range Rover Classic via kit GA5526. All applications use the LT230 transfer box. Confirm your conversion kit reference before ordering.
