Frequently asked questions

What is the joint washer (232038) used for?
The joint washer is a soft copper sealing washer that seals threaded plugs, unions and banjo bolts. As the fitting is tightened the copper deforms to both faces, forming a leak-tight metal seal. It's specified in many locations across the engine, gearbox and fuel system.
How many copper joint washers do I need?
Copper joint washers are sold individually, so order one for each sealing face you're renewing. Many banjo unions need one washer each side of the fitting, so check the joint first. Buying a couple of spares is typically sensible since they're single-use.
Can a copper joint washer be reused?
Copper joint washers are typically single-use. Once crushed, the washer has already conformed to the joint and won't seal reliably a second time, which can cause weeps. Fit a new washer whenever you disturb the joint; replacing is safer than annealing an old one.
