What does the rear spring U-bolt do?
The rear spring U-bolt passes around the axle casing and clamps the leaf spring pack, the spring seat and the lower shock absorber mounting plate into one stack. That clamp load holds the spring pack located on its centre bolt. Fitted to the Land Rover Series III rear suspension.
How many U-bolts are needed?
This is supplied as part of a set. A leaf-sprung axle typically uses two U-bolts per spring, so four across the rear axle. Check how many your axle carries before ordering.
Can the U-bolts be reused?
U-bolts are renewed rather than reused once they've been stretched or corroded. They lose clamp load when disturbed, and it's that clamp load that keeps the spring pack located, so fitting fresh ones is the safe choice.
