When is the pinion end bush replaced?
The pinion end bush is typically renewed during a starter motor overhaul. As the bush wears, the armature can drift off centre and drag, which usually shows as slow or noisy cranking. Fitting new end bushes when rebuilding the Lucas M418-type starter restores proper shaft alignment.
