Frequently asked questions

What does the rear shock absorber do?
The rear shock absorber is a heavy-duty, oil-filled damper that controls rear suspension movement on the Defender. It damps the rear coil springs to keep the wheels in contact with the road and limit body movement.
Which vehicles does it fit?
It fits the rear suspension of the Defender, covering 1986-2006 and 2007-onwards Puma models, all engines. It's a heavy-duty oil-filled damper suited to the coil-sprung Defender rear axle.
Is it sold individually or as a pair?
It's supplied individually. Shock absorbers are usually replaced in axle pairs so both sides damp evenly, so for the rear axle you'd typically order two.
How do I know the rear shocks need replacing?
Worn rear shocks typically show as a bouncy or wallowing ride, poor control over bumps, and sometimes oil leaking down the body of the damper. Replacing them in a pair restores stable rear suspension control.
