What is the T2H4206 steering rack gaiter kit for?
The T2H4206 steering rack gaiter kit seals the end of the rack and pinion steering housing where the inner tie rod enters. The pleated bellows keeps the rack lubricant in and water, grit and road salt out. The kit includes the gaiter, its retaining clip and grease.
How many of these gaiter kits do I need?
Two gaiters are fitted per vehicle, one at each end of the steering rack. This kit covers one side, so order two if you're replacing both. It's common practice to renew both together, since the second is usually close behind the first once one has perished.
Why does a steering rack gaiter need replacing?
A split or perished rack gaiter lets water, grit and salt straight into the steering rack, which is a common cause of rack wear, steering play and fluid leaks. Once torn it no longer holds the rack grease, so replacing it early protects the far more expensive rack.
