What does the ride height sensor do?
The ride height sensor is a rotary position sensor that reports rear suspension travel to the suspension control module. A drop link couples its arm to the rear suspension arm, so the module reads wheel travel and body attitude to control adaptive damping, and on air suspension it governs levelling and ride height.
What are the signs of a failing ride height sensor?
A failing ride height sensor on the Discovery Sport or Evoque L551 usually triggers a suspension fault warning, incorrect ride height, or erratic damping. Because the control module relies on its signal, a bad sensor can put the suspension into a fault or default mode.
Does a new ride height sensor need calibrating?
A replacement ride height sensor is calibrated to the vehicle, so the ride height calibration routine must be run with diagnostic equipment before the suspension controls normally. Fitting the sensor alone isn't enough; without calibration the height and damping won't read correctly.
