What is the Oil Filter Cover (1316143) used for?
The Oil Filter Cover caps the oil filter housing on the 2.7 TDV6 diesel engine. It retains the replaceable filter element inside the housing and seals the assembly against oil pressure. It's removed to withdraw and renew the element during an oil service. Fits Discovery 3, Discovery 4 and Range Rover Sport with the 2.7 V6 diesel.
Where is the oil filter cover located on the engine?
The oil filter cover sits on top of the oil filter housing within the engine lubrication system, typically accessed from above the engine. It's the part you unscrew to reach the filter element on the 2.7 TDV6, so it comes off first at every oil change.
Do I need to replace the cover when changing the oil filter?
The oil filter cover is usually reused; it's the filter element and its sealing O-ring that get renewed at each oil change. Inspect the cover's sealing surface and thread for damage before refitting. If a new seal ships with the element, fit it to keep the housing oil-tight on the 2.7 TDV6.
