Frequently asked questions

What is the Con Rod Assembly for the 2.7 TDV6?
The connecting rod assembly links a piston to the crankshaft on the 2.7 TDV6 turbo diesel V6, transferring combustion force into crankshaft rotation. It's supplied complete with its big-end cap and bolts. Fitted to Discovery 3, Discovery 4, Range Rover Sport L320 and the 2.7 diesel Jaguar range.
Does the con rod come with the big-end bolts?
Yes, the con rod assembly is supplied complete with its big-end cap and connecting rod bolts, so you don't need to source the bolts separately. The big end clamps around the crankpin on its bearing shells, while the small end carries the gudgeon pin at the piston.
How many con rods does the 2.7 TDV6 need?
The 2.7 TDV6 V6 uses six connecting rods, one per cylinder. They're sold individually here, so a full rebuild needs six matched rods. For a single spun big-end bearing you may only need one, but rods are often replaced as a set to keep weights matched.
Why replace a con rod on the 2.7 TDV6?
Con rods on the 2.7 TDV6 are replaced after big-end bearing failure, oil starvation, or a hydraulic lock that bends the rod. A damaged rod can knock, lose oil pressure, or break through the block if run on. Inspect the rods whenever the bottom end is opened up.
