What does the crankcase ventilation tube do?
The crankcase ventilation tube vents combustion gases (blow-by) that collect in the crankcase on the 3.0L V6 turbo diesel. Venting this gas prevents pressure building up, which would otherwise force oil past seals and gaskets. It is part of the oil pan and crankcase breather arrangement.
Which vehicles use this crankcase ventilation tube?
This crankcase ventilation tube fits the 3.0L V6 diesel in the Discovery 4 and 5, Range Rover L405 (2013-2022), and Range Rover Sport L320 (2010-2013) and L494 (2014-2022). It is not fitted to petrol variants. Confirm your engine is the 3.0 V6 diesel before ordering.
What happens if the crankcase ventilation tube fails?
A cracked or blocked crankcase ventilation tube can cause oil leaks, oil consumption, or crankcase pressure problems on the 3.0L V6 diesel. The tube can split or its connections perish with heat and age. Replacing it restores correct breather flow and seals the system.
