What does the exhaust gas temperature sensor do?
The exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensor measures exhaust temperature and feeds it to the engine ECU, which uses it to protect the turbo and manage diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration. This front EGT sensor (LR015455) fits several Land Rover diesels and mounts in the front pipe and catalyst area.

This is the front EGT sensor, fitted in the front pipe and catalyst assembly on the left-hand side. Diesel exhaust systems use more than one temperature sensor, so confirm you need the front one rather than a sensor further down the exhaust.
What are the symptoms of a failed EGT sensor?
Symptoms include the engine warning light, reduced power or limp mode, and DPF or emission fault codes. On these Land Rover diesels a failing front EGT sensor can wrongly trigger turbo protection or block DPF regeneration. Replacing it usually clears the fault.
