Frequently asked questions

What does the tensioner pulley do on the 3.0 TDV6?
The tensioner pulley keeps the correct tension on the auxiliary drive belt of the 3.0 24V V6 turbo diesel. It runs on a sealed bearing and takes up slack as the belt stretches and as loads change across the accessory drive, keeping the belt tracking properly on the pulleys.
Where does the tensioner pulley sit on the engine?
It sits at the front of the 3.0 V6 diesel in the pulleys and drive belts area, section 05B, running against the auxiliary drive belt alongside the alternator, air conditioning compressor and other belt driven accessories. Access is from the front of the engine bay.
What are the signs a tensioner pulley needs replacing?
A dry or failing tensioner bearing on the 3.0 V6 diesel typically makes a rumble or squeal from the front of the engine that changes with revs, and the pulley may feel rough or have play when spun by hand with the belt off. A belt that keeps shedding or running off line points the same way.
Should the drive belt be changed at the same time?
Renewing the auxiliary belt alongside the tensioner is normal practice, since the belt has usually been running against a failing pulley and has to come off anyway. Check the other idler pulleys while the belt is off, because they typically reach the end of their bearing life around the same point on the 3.0 V6.
Which vehicles does LR016138 fit?
LR016138 is listed for the Range Rover Sport 2010-2013 with the 3.0 24V DOHC V6 turbo diesel and ACE suspension, from VIN AA000001. The ACE suspension qualifier matters here, so check your build against your VIN before ordering.
