What does the MAP sensor do?
The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor measures pressure inside the intake manifold and sends an engine-load signal to the ECM. On the 5.0L V8 and 3.0L V6 supercharged petrol engines the ECM uses it to set fuelling and ignition timing.
Which engines and models use this MAP sensor?
It fits the 5.0L V8 and 3.0L V6 supercharged petrol (AJ133) in the New Defender L663, Discovery 4 and 5, Range Rover L322 and L405, Range Rover Sport L320 and L494, and Velar. Confirm you have the supercharged petrol engine.
What are the signs of a failing MAP sensor?
Common signs include rough running, poor throttle response, higher fuel use, and an engine warning light. A faulty MAP reading upsets fuelling on the supercharged AJ133 petrol, so diagnostics usually confirm it before replacement.
