Frequently asked questions

What is the MHK501050 rear lambda sensor?
The MHK501050 is a rear (post-catalyst) lambda sensor that mounts in the front pipe and catalyst assembly, downstream of the converter. It doesn't trim fuelling directly, it lets the ECU compare pre and post-cat oxygen to monitor catalyst efficiency on Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport L320 petrol.
How is this different from the front lambda sensor?
This is the rear, post-catalyst sensor, not the upstream one that trims fuelling. It monitors catalyst efficiency by reading exhaust gas after the converter. Ordering the wrong position is common, so confirm you need the post-cat sensor before buying this rear unit.
Does this rear lambda sensor fit my vehicle?
This sensor fits the Discovery 3 4.0L V6 and 4.4L V8 and the Range Rover Sport L320 4.2 supercharged and 4.4 V8, in NAS (North America) specification only, from VIN 7A000001. Confirm your market and VIN before ordering.
Why does a rear lambda sensor fail?
Rear lambda sensors typically fail from ageing, exhaust contamination, or heat cycling, which sets a catalyst-efficiency fault and the engine light. Because it monitors the converter rather than fuelling, a faulty sensor usually shows as an emissions code on the Discovery 3 or Range Rover Sport.
