What is the exhaust gas temperature sensor (NSC500630) and what does it do?
The EGT sensor is fitted on the right-hand side of the front pipe and catalyst area on DPF-equipped diesel Land Rovers. It reports exhaust temperature to the ECM, which uses the reading to control diesel particulate filter regeneration and protect the catalyst and turbo from over-temperature.
What symptoms does a failed EGT sensor cause on a DPF-equipped diesel?
An out-of-range or open-circuit sensor typically inhibits DPF regeneration and logs a fault. The filter then loads progressively, causing reduced engine performance and potentially triggering a DPF warning. This sensor is diesel-only and is not fitted to petrol variants.
