What does the transmission oil cooler do?
The transmission oil cooler sits in the automatic gearbox cooling circuit. ATF is routed out of the gearbox and through the cooler's finned matrix, where it gives up heat before returning to the box, holding the fluid within its working temperature range.
Why does keeping ATF cool matter?
Holding ATF within its temperature range keeps it at its designed viscosity and protects the clutch packs, torque converter and valve body from heat-related wear. This matters most under towing, low-range work and sustained high load, where fluid temperatures climb.
Can a leaking or blocked cooler be repaired?
No. A corroded or externally leaking matrix can't be repaired and is replaced as a complete cooler assembly. Overheating from a restricted cooler shortens transmission life well before any warning is displayed, so a suspect cooler is renewed rather than patched.
Which vehicles does this cooler fit?
