What does the exhaust gas temperature sensor do?
The exhaust gas temperature sensor reports exhaust gas temperature to the engine control module on diesel vehicles fitted with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The ECM uses these readings to protect the catalyst and turbocharger from over-temperature and to govern the DPF regeneration cycle that burns off accumulated soot.
Where is the exhaust gas temperature sensor located?
The exhaust gas temperature sensor threads into a boss in the exhaust and connects to the engine harness. It sits in the diesel exhaust aftertreatment section, near the DPF and catalyst it monitors, on vehicles equipped with a particulate filter.
