What does the front crankshaft oil seal do?
The front crankshaft oil seal seals the front of the crankshaft where it passes through the engine front cover on the AJ200 2.0L four-cylinder petrol and diesel engine. It keeps oil in the crankcase and dirt and moisture out around the rotating crankshaft snout.
Where is this seal located on the engine?
This seal sits at the front of the engine, behind the crankshaft pulley and vibration damper on the AJ200 2.0L engine. The pulley has to come off to reach it, which is why it's often renewed during timing drive or front cover work.
When should the front crankshaft seal be replaced?
Replace the front crankshaft oil seal when you find front-of-engine oil leaks, or as a matter of course during timing drive and front cover service while the area is already stripped. A weeping front seal usually shows as oil around the crank pulley.
