The LR166341LR camshaft cover gasket (Genuine Land Rover) seals between the camshaft cover and the cylinder head on 2.7L Td6 and 3.0L V6 diesel engines. It contains oil thrown off the camshafts and keeps dirt and water out of the top of the cylinder head.
Can this gasket be reused?
No, the camshaft cover gasket is a single-use item and should be renewed every time the cover is removed. A reused or crushed gasket typically weeps oil down the side of the cylinder head or collects it in the injector wells. Fit a new one whenever the cover is disturbed.
What are the signs this gasket needs replacing?
A failing camshaft cover gasket usually shows as oil weeping down the side of the cylinder head or pooling in the injector wells. A hardened or crushed gasket won't reseal, so renew it rather than retorquing the cover. Left unchecked, oil can reach hot components.
