Frequently asked questions

What is the 8510311 clutch driven plate and what does it do?
The clutch driven plate is the friction disc that sits on the splined gearbox input shaft, between the flywheel and the pressure plate. Its splined hub transmits drive from the engine to the gearbox, while the friction linings and torsion springs give progressive take-up and damp driveline shock.
Which model does this clutch plate fit?
It fits the Range Rover P38 (1994-2001) with the 4.0L and 4.6L V8 EFI petrol engine and manual transmission. Most P38s left the factory as automatics, so use your VIN to confirm yours is a manual before ordering.
When should the clutch driven plate be replaced?
Typically when the clutch slips under load, judders on take-up, or won't fully disengage, as the friction linings wear down over time. It's usually worth replacing the pressure plate and release bearing at the same time, since the gearbox has to come out for the job.
Is this a DIY job?
Usually not. Replacing the driven plate means removing the gearbox to reach the clutch, so it typically needs a transmission jack and is more of a workshop job. Many plates are marked for orientation, so fit it the way the markings indicate.
