The PYC102340 is a spring-band hose clip from the charge-air intercooler ducting of the Td5 2.5L five-cylinder turbo diesel engine. It secures a flexible intercooler hose onto its mating pipe stub, keeping the joint sealed against boost pressure.
Why use a spring-band clip instead of a worm-drive clamp?
The spring-band design maintains a constant clamping load as the hose and pipe expand and contract with charge-air temperature. That keeps the intercooler joint sealed under boost without the periodic re-tightening a worm-drive clamp needs on the Td5 charge-air system.
Should the clip be replaced when the intercooler hose is disturbed?
Yes, fit a new clip whenever an intercooler hose is disturbed. A clip that has lost spring tension will let the joint leak under boost, showing as lost power. It fits the Defender up to 2016 with the 2.5 Td5 diesel engine.
