What is this sealing washer used for?
This sealing washer is a bonded Dowty-type seal for the power steering pump banjo union. A metal ring carries a vulcanised rubber lip that compresses into the joint as the banjo bolt is tightened, sealing the high-pressure fluid path. It fits Land Rover Defender and Range Rover Classic power steering pumps.
How many sealing washers are needed?
A banjo union typically takes two sealing washers, one each side of the hose eye, so order a pair per union. Both seal the high-pressure feed on the Defender and Range Rover Classic power steering pump. Check how many joints you're resealing.
Can the sealing washer be reused?
Renew this sealing washer every time the banjo union is undone. The rubber lip takes a permanent set once compressed, so a reused washer typically weeps under the high pump pressure. Fitting new washers is the reliable way to seal the joint.
