What is the STC481 water pump and what does it do?
The STC481 is an aftermarket water pump for the Rover 3.5L V8 engine. It circulates coolant through the block, cylinder heads and radiator, driven by the auxiliary belt. It's the viscous-fan type pump and includes the mounting gasket.
Which Land Rover models does this water pump fit?
This water pump fits the Range Rover Classic 1970-1994 with the Rover V8 3.5L engine, engine number suffix C, D or E and 8.25:1 compression. It also fits the 101 Forward Control with the same 3.5L V8. Use your engine suffix to confirm.
Why does a water pump fail on the Rover V8?
Water pumps typically fail when the internal bearing wears or the seal leaks, letting coolant weep from the weep hole. Signs usually include coolant loss, a rattle or wobble from the pump, or overheating. A failed pump can't circulate coolant and risks engine damage from overheating.
Does the STC481 come with a gasket?
Yes, the STC481 includes the mounting gasket, so you don't need to source one separately. Fit the new gasket on installation and clean the mating face on the engine front to ensure a reliable coolant seal.
