What is the STC4858G rear differential drive flange?
The STC4858G is the rear differential drive flange that bolts to the rear axle pinion and connects the rear propshaft to the differential. It fits the Defender 90/110, Discovery 1, Discovery 2, and Range Rover Classic with the Land Rover type rear axle, supplied as a flange kit.
Where does this drive flange sit on the vehicle?
The rear drive flange mounts on the rear differential pinion, at the front face of the rear axle, where the rear propshaft universal joint bolts on. It transmits drive from the propshaft into the crown wheel and pinion on Defender, Discovery 1/2, and Range Rover Classic axles.
What causes a drive flange to need replacing?
A rear drive flange typically needs replacing when the propshaft bolt holes wear or elongate, the flange face corrodes, or the splines wear, causing a driveline vibration or clunk. On these Land Rover axles it's often changed alongside the pinion oil seal to cure a rear diff leak.
