The LR005539G seals the flywheel end of the crankshaft on the 3.6L V8 TDV8 (Lion) diesel engine, closing off the rear of the crankcase so oil can't escape where the crankshaft exits to the flywheel. It's supplied as the seal complete with its carrier or retainer, fitted as one assembly.
When should the rear crankshaft seal be replaced?
The rear crankshaft seal is usually replaced when it leaks oil at the bellhousing, or as a matter of course whenever the gearbox or clutch is off the 3.6 TDV8 engine. Access needs the transmission removed, so fitting a new LR005539G during that job avoids a second strip-down later.
