What does vented mean on this front brake disc?

This is a vented front brake disc from Delphi. A vented disc has two friction faces with vanes between them, so air is pumped through the middle as the wheel turns. That sheds heat much better than a solid disc, which is why the front axle normally uses them.

Can I fit this in place of a solid disc?
