Frequently asked questions

What does the LR078479 front suspension arm do?

The LR078479 front lower suspension arm locates the front hub carrier to the subframe on the Range Rover L405 and Range Rover Sport L494. It carries the bushes and ball joint that set front wheel camber and caster, and it takes cornering and braking loads through to the chassis.

Which side does this arm fit?

This is the left-hand front lower arm. Suspension arms are handed, so the right-hand side is a different part number. Handing is taken from the driver's seat facing forwards, which puts this on the passenger side of a right-hand-drive Range Rover L405.

Does this fit all Range Rover L405 models?

It fits the Range Rover L405 from VIN (V)GA000001 onwards and the Range Rover Sport L494 (2014 to 2022). L405 vehicles built before that VIN break take a different arm, so check your chassis number rather than going by model year alone.

What are the signs a front lower arm needs replacing?

Knocking over bumps and vague steering are the common signs, and both usually trace to worn arm bushes rather than the arm itself. A worn ball joint typically shows as play when the wheel is levered. Uneven front tyre wear on the L405 often follows a collapsed bush.

Does the alignment need checking after fitting?

Yes. The front lower arm sets camber and caster on the Range Rover L405 and Range Rover Sport L494, so a four wheel alignment after fitting is standard practice. Skipping it typically leads to rapid and uneven front tyre wear.
