Frequently asked questions

What is this rocker assembly used for?
This is the left-hand aluminium rocker arm for the Rover V8 engine. It transfers pushrod movement to open the valves and sits under the rocker cover on the left cylinder bank. SAP lists 8 per vehicle for this side.
How many rocker arms are needed?
SAP lists 8 per vehicle for the left-hand side, matching the eight valves on that bank of the Rover V8. They are typically replaced as a set so wear stays even across the bank.
Which engines and models use this rocker arm?
This left-hand rocker arm suits the Rover V8, including 3.5L twin carb and 4.0 or 4.6L EFI. It fits Series, Defender to 2006, Discovery 1 and 2, Range Rover Classic, and Range Rover P38 with the V8.
Why do Rover V8 rocker arms fail?
Rover V8 rocker arms wear at the tip and bush, which causes a ticking or tapping noise from the top of the engine, usually on higher-mileage units. Worn rockers upset valve clearances and add valve train wear.
What is the difference between the LH and RH rocker arm?
This is the left-hand rocker arm. The Rover V8 uses handed rockers, so the left and right banks take different parts. Confirm you need the LH side, or order both banks if doing the full valve train.
