Frequently asked questions

What does the Gearchange Lever Oil Seal do?

The Gearchange Lever Oil Seal seals the gearchange lever where it enters the manual gearbox housing. It retains transmission oil around the selector lever pivot and keeps dirt out of the gearchange mechanism.

What are the signs this seal needs replacing?

This gearchange lever seal typically hardens with age and leaks oil around the base of the gear lever. Renewing it stops the oil loss and keeps grit out of the selector mechanism.

Which Land Rovers use this gearchange lever seal?

This Genuine Land Rover seal fits the manual gearbox on the Defender, Discovery 1 (1989-1998, VIN FA393361 to WA799999), Discovery 2 (1998-2004) and Range Rover Classic (from VIN JA610294).
