What does the throttle body potentiometer do on the V8?
The throttle body potentiometer is the throttle position sensor on the V8 EFi petrol engine. Mounted on the throttle body and driven by the throttle spindle, it signals throttle plate angle to the engine ECU, which sets fuelling and idle. Fits Discovery 2 and Range Rover P38 V8 EFi petrol.
What are the symptoms of a failing throttle potentiometer?
A worn throttle body potentiometer typically causes hesitation, surging, unstable idle and flat spots on the V8 EFi engine. The internal track wears at the most-used throttle angles, giving the ECU an erratic signal. It often shows up with a throttle or idle fault code.
How do I confirm this potentiometer fits my Range Rover P38?
This throttle body potentiometer fits Range Rover P38 4.0L and 4.6L V8 EFi petrol from VIN XA410482, and Discovery 2 V8 EFi petrol. Check your VIN against the XA410482 break on P38 cars, as earlier throttle bodies use a different sensor.
