It's the rear differential housing, the casing that carries the crown wheel and pinion and bolts into the rear axle. This is a reconditioned unit, supplied without a locking differential, so it suits vehicles built without the rear diff lock.

Which vehicles does it fit?

The Discovery 3, Discovery 4 and Range Rover Sport L320, in the versions built without a rear locking differential. Build splits apply within those models, so check your VIN before ordering rather than relying on model and year.

How do I know whether my vehicle has a locking rear differential?

It usually shows as a diff lock option in the vehicle's terrain settings, and as an actuator motor on the back of the differential. A vehicle fitted with the locking unit needs the locking housing, not this one. Your VIN or build record will confirm it.
