Frequently asked questions

What does the air conditioning compressor do?
The air conditioning compressor draws low-pressure refrigerant vapour from the evaporator and compresses it for delivery to the condenser. Driven by the engine belt through an electromagnetic clutch, it circulates refrigerant whenever the A/C is engaged.
Which Defender does this A/C compressor fit?
This air conditioning compressor fits the Land Rover Defender 2012-2016 with the 2.2L Puma diesel and manual air conditioning, from VIN CA000001. It's for manual A/C cars only.
What are the signs the A/C compressor has failed?
A failing A/C compressor usually shows as weak or no cold air, a rattling or seized clutch, or the belt squealing. Internal wear can put debris through the system, so the receiver-dryer is typically replaced alongside it.
Should other A/C parts be renewed when fitting a new compressor?
When fitting a new compressor, the receiver-dryer and expansion valve are typically renewed and the system flushed, because debris from a failed compressor can circulate. The system also needs evacuating and recharging by a qualified technician.
