Why do injector seals fail on the 4.4 V8 diesel?
Injector seals fail from heat cycling and combustion pressure working past a washer that has hardened or been reused. The usual signs are a ticking or chuffing noise from the top of the engine, black carbon around the injector base, and a diesel smell under the bonnet.
