Where does the STC1962 brake caliper fit?
STC1962 is the right hand rear brake caliper for the Discovery 1 1989 to 1998 running solid rear discs. It mounts to the rear axle on the right hand side and clamps the pads onto the disc when hydraulic pressure arrives from the brake master cylinder.
Does STC1962 suit vented or solid discs?
STC1962 is the solid disc caliper. Discovery 1 rear brakes typically run solid discs while the fronts are vented, so this is a rear axle part. If your disc has cooling vanes between two friction faces, this is not the right caliper.
Do I need to replace both rear calipers together?
Replace rear calipers in pairs where possible. STC1962 is the right hand side only, so the left hand caliper is a separate part. A new caliper on one side and a tired one on the other typically gives uneven pad wear and a pull under braking.
How do I confirm this caliper suits my Discovery 1?
