Frequently asked questions

What does this ignition coil do?
This ignition coil steps the vehicle's 12V supply up to the high-tension voltage needed to fire the spark plugs, feeding that output through the distributor cap and rotor to each cylinder in firing order. It's a canister-type, oil-filled coil for a conventional distributor-based ignition system.
How do I know if this coil fits my distributor setup?
This coil is designed for a conventional distributor-based ignition system, wiring into the low-tension circuit ahead of the distributor. If your vehicle has been converted to electronic or coil-on-plug ignition, this coil type won't be compatible.
What are signs this ignition coil is failing?
Typical signs include misfiring, hard or intermittent starting, a rough idle, or a complete no-spark condition. Because it's oil-filled, a coil can also fail from internal overheating or an oil leak from the casing.
Is this coil the same as the V8 EFi coil?
No. This is the standard distributor coil for conventional ignition systems. A separate coil is listed for the petrol V8 EFi ignition system, so check which ignition type your engine uses before ordering.
