What is the Con Rod and what does it do?
The Con Rod, or connecting rod, links a piston to the crankshaft and transmits combustion force to turn the crank. The big-end carries the crankshaft bearing and the small-end holds the gudgeon pin in the piston.
Where is the connecting rod located?
The connecting rod sits inside the engine, running between the underside of the piston and the crankshaft journal. It converts the piston's up-and-down movement into rotation at the crankshaft.
Why do connecting rods fail?
Connecting rods typically fail after big-end bearing failure, oil starvation, or over-revving, which can bend or break the rod. Inspect the rod and its bearing whenever the engine is stripped, and replace any rod that's bent, scored, or heat-damaged.
