Frequently asked questions

What does the engine knock sensor do?
The engine knock sensor detects the vibration of combustion knock (detonation) and passes the signal to the engine control module, which retards ignition timing to protect the engine. It's mounted on the cylinder block of the 2.0L 16V TiVCT turbo petrol engine in the Range Rover Evoque L538 and Discovery Sport.
Does the knock sensor fit diesel engines?
This knock sensor fits the 2.0L 16V TiVCT turbo petrol engine only (240PS and Gen2). It covers Range Rover Evoque L538, Discovery Sport, Freelander 2, Range Rover L405 and Range Rover Sport L494. Diesel engines don't use this sensor, so confirm your engine is petrol before ordering.
What are the signs of a faulty knock sensor?
A faulty engine knock sensor typically triggers a check engine light with knock-sensor fault codes, reduced performance, or poor fuel economy as the ECM defaults to conservative ignition timing. On the 2.0L petrol Range Rover Evoque L538 and Discovery Sport, it sits on the cylinder block within the engine management system.
