What does the coolant bypass hose do?
The coolant bypass hose connects the water pump to the thermostat housing on the 2.2L Td4 diesel engine. It carries the bypass coolant flow that keeps coolant circulating while the thermostat is closed during warm-up. Fits the Freelander 2, Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque 2.2L diesel.
What are the signs of a failing coolant bypass hose?
A failing coolant bypass hose typically perishes, splits or leaks at the ends, causing coolant loss and possible overheating. On the 2.2L Td4 a leak here drips near the pump and thermostat. Rubber hoses harden with age and heat, so a weeping hose is worth replacing before it fails fully.
Does this hose fit all 2.2 Land Rovers?
This coolant bypass hose fits only the 2.2L Td4 / CR DI (DW12) diesel engine in the Freelander 2, Discovery Sport (2015 on) and Range Rover Evoque L538 (2012-2018). Petrol and other diesel engines route coolant differently, so confirm your engine is the 2.2 diesel.
