What does the LR003155 axle case seal do?

The LR003155 front axle case seal seals the front axle case (final drive housing) around the driveshaft where it passes through the case. It retains the differential lubricant and keeps dirt and water out of the axle on the Discovery Sport, Freelander 2 and Evoque.

When should the front axle case seal be replaced?

Replace this seal when oil weeps from the front axle case, or whenever the driveshaft is removed on the Discovery Sport, Freelander 2, Evoque L538 or L551. A hardened, cut or worn seal lip lets axle oil escape, so it's renewed as a matter of course.
