What does the Starter Motor do?
The Starter Motor cranks the engine to start it. When you turn the key or press start, the integral solenoid pushes the pinion gear into mesh with the flywheel ring gear and spins the engine over until it fires, then the pinion retracts. Fitted to the 2.0L 16V petrol engine.
Where does the starter motor sit on the engine?
The starter motor bolts to the lower engine, at the bellhousing joint where it meets the gearbox, so its pinion can engage the flywheel ring gear. On these 2.0L 16V GTDI/Si4 petrol engines it drives the ring gear directly to turn the crank.
