Frequently asked questions

What does the MEK100060L temperature sensor do?
The MEK100060L is the engine coolant temperature sensor for the Freelander 1 1.8L K-Series petrol engine. It threads into the coolant rail and signals coolant temperature to the ECU for fuelling and cooling-fan control, and also drives the dashboard temperature gauge.
How is the brown temperature sensor different from the cooling-fan switch?
The brown-connector MEK100060L is the coolant temperature transducer that feeds the ECU and gauge. It's not the separate cooling-fan temperature switch used on the same K-Series engine. Check the connector body is brown and has two spade terminals to confirm you have the right part.
What are the signs of a failed coolant temperature sensor?
Typically an erratic or inaccurate temperature gauge, poor cold starting, rich running, or the cooling fan behaving incorrectly. On the 1.8L K-Series a faulty sensor usually sends the ECU a wrong coolant reading, upsetting fuelling and fan control.
Which vehicle does the MEK100060L fit?
The MEK100060L fits the Freelander 1 (1997-2006) with the 1.8L K-Series petrol engine. Confirm your engine is the 1.8 K-Series and that the original sensor has a brown connector before ordering.
