The NNK10001LA inlet air temperature sensor measures the temperature of the air charge entering the engine. It's a thermistor whose resistance falls as intake air warms, and the engine control module reads that signal to correct fuelling and ignition timing for air density.
Where is the inlet air temperature sensor fitted?
The sensor sits in the inlet manifold on the Discovery 1 (1989-1998) 2.0 litre T Series petrol and the Freelander 1 1.8 litre K Series petrol. It reads manifold air temperature for the engine management system.
What are the signs this sensor has failed?
A sensor that has drifted or gone open-circuit typically causes poor fuelling, rough running or a fault code on the Discovery 1 and Freelander 1 petrol engines. Because it feeds air-density data to the ECU, a bad reading upsets the fuel and timing calculation.
