What does the front shock absorber top mount do?
The front shock absorber top mount secures the upper end of the front damper to the Freelander 1 body. It locates the top of the strut assembly, feeds suspension loads into the body structure, and isolates road vibration coming up through the damper.
How many top mounts are needed for a Freelander 1?
Typically two are needed to do the front axle, one per side. Most workshops replace both top mounts together when renewing the front dampers, since they wear at a similar rate. This listing is for the front mount.
Does this front top mount fit all Freelander 1 models?
The Freelander 1 had a running change to the front top mount. Early cars run to VIN YA999999 and later cars from VIN 1A000001. Check your VIN before ordering, as the early and later mounting plates differ.
What are the signs of a worn front top mount?
Worn top mounts often show up as knocking or clonking from the front strut tops over bumps, a rattle on rough roads, or uneven damper wear. On the Freelander 1 they carry constant suspension load, so they're commonly renewed alongside the front shock absorbers.
