What is the SMN000020 brake shoe return spring?
This is the rear brake shoe return spring for the Freelander 1 (1997-2006) rear drum brake. It pulls the brake shoes back off the drum when the pedal is released, setting the running clearance between the lining and drum.
How many springs should I fit at once?
The return springs are fitted as an axle set, so replace them across both rear drums together. A stretched or weak spring lets the shoes drag on the drum, causing uneven wear on the Freelander 1.
When should the return springs be replaced?
This spring fits Freelander 1 rear drums from VIN 1A000001. Replace the springs whenever you fit new shoes, as a tired spring will not retract the shoes fully and leads to premature lining wear and a warm drum.
