Frequently asked questions

What does the CV joint boot kit do?
The CV joint boot kit reseals the outer constant-velocity joint on the rear drive shaft. The rubber boot holds the joint grease in and keeps dirt and water out, protecting the CV joint from wear. The kit includes the boot, retaining clamps and a sachet of CV grease.
Why do CV boots need replacing?
CV boots typically split or perish with age and movement, throwing grease and letting grit into the joint. Once the boot's torn the CV joint wears quickly and starts clicking on full lock. Replacing the boot early, before the joint is damaged, saves fitting a whole drive shaft.
Which Freelander does this kit fit?
This kit fits the Freelander 1 (1997-2006) up to chassis number 1A323560. Later cars use a different setup, so check your chassis number falls below that break before ordering. It covers the outer CV joint on the rear drive shaft.
Can the CV boot be replaced at home?
Replacing a CV boot is typically a DIY job with basic tools, though the drive shaft usually has to come off to slide the new boot on. You clean out the old grease, pack the joint with the supplied grease and crimp the new clamps. A boot clamp tool makes closing the clamps easier.
