Frequently asked questions

What is this interior trim fastener?
This is a fir-tree type push-in fastener that retains interior trim and soft furnishings to the body panels. The ribbed shank pushes into a plain hole and the barbs grip the hole wall, holding the trim without a separate nut or captive clip.
Where is this fastener used?
On the Defender it's used at facia moulding, parcel tray, seat base insulation and carpet fixing points. On the Freelander 1 it retains the plenum finisher trim. It suits any plain-hole trim fixing that originally used a fir-tree fastener of this size.
How many fasteners should I order?
Order one per fixing point you're renewing, and it's worth having a few spares, since fir-tree fasteners are used in multiples around a single trim panel. Count the holes on the panel you're refitting to work out the quantity you need.
Can these fasteners be reused?
Fir-tree fasteners are typically single-use, since the barbs deform and lose grip once pulled from the panel. Reused ones often work loose or rattle. It's usually best to fit new fasteners whenever you remove the trim they hold, rather than refitting the originals.
