What is an olive on a fuel line?

An olive is the compression ferrule that seals a rigid fuel line union. It sits between the pipe and the union nut, and as the nut is tightened the olive is squeezed onto the pipe and into the taper of the fitting. That compression forms the seal, not the nut.

Can a fuel line olive be reused?

No. Olives deform permanently when tightened, so they're treated as single use. Fit a new olive every time a fuel pipe union is disturbed, even if the old one looks undamaged.

How many olives do I need for a fuel pipe repair?

One STC1162 olive per union. A pipe with a fitting at each end needs two, and a spare is worth having, since an olive started onto a pipe and then removed shouldn't go back on.

Will STC1162 fit my fuel line?
